'Me & Her' is an all-vocal mini-LP from Melbourne indie folk artist Ryan Downey.
Originating when Downey broke his arm in 2015 and was unable to play any instruments for six weeks, the recordings are constructed using only his own vocals and body percussion.
With two originals - 'Tidings' and 'What Gives?' - and five songs written by female songwriters, the album weaves it's way through themes of time and it’s healing power and of water and the emotional connection we often find in it’s various states and forms.
Recorded in Downey's home studio, the mini-LP was then mixed by producer Anna Laverty (Nick Cave, Cut Copy, Meg Mac) who helped further develop the sonic stylings of the songs and was mastered by Ross Cockle at Sing Sing studios.
Contains the two singles - 'Tidings' and 'Only Time'.
'A jaw-dropping set of gorgeously constructed voice work…and it's easy, listening to the seven tracks - to forget why anybody bothers with instruments in the first place.’ - The Music on 'Me & Her'
'Ryan, in all his incredible insanity...has given it a charming twist and turned it into a real song.' Henry Wagons (Double J's Tower of Song) on 'Only Time'
'I know you’re not going to believe this, but this is a multitracked-vocals-and-clapping version of the Enya staple. It seems remarkably honest in its intentions, and it’s remarkably engaging as a result. You think you’ve seen it all, and then…' Independent Clauses on 'Only Time'
'There is so much great music out there, much of which has me saying, “This is so good.” Then there are the select few that make me go, “Whoa!”. These are songs that just bowl me over at first listen, and the new single by Ryan Downey does exactly that.' The Revue on 'Only Time'
'One that you shouldn't miss out on.' Aphra Magazine
